How to Make an India Passport Photo at Home (2026)
A studio photo isn’t required. With your phone, a plain white wall and a free tool, you can make a compliant 2×2 inch (51×51 mm) Indian passport photo and print it at home.
Tip: the physical Passport Seva application typically uses a 2×2 in colour photo on white. Some services (e.g. certain visa or OCI forms) ask for slightly different specs — always confirm the exact requirement on the official portal before submitting. This guide is general help only.
Step by step: take the photo
Find a plain white wall and stand about half a metre in front of it so no shadow falls behind your head.
Face a window for soft, even daylight. Avoid a single harsh overhead bulb — it casts shadows.
Have someone take the shot from about 1.2 m, at eye level, phone upright, you looking straight at the lens.
Neutral face — mouth closed, eyes open, no smiling, hair away from the eyes.
Take several and keep the sharpest, most evenly lit one.
